Apple seems to be doubling down on its “Pro” identity once again. After making the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max noticeably thicker and heavier than before, reports suggest that next year’s iPhone 18 Pro Max will continue that trend — and possibly take it even further.
A recent leak from well-known tipster Instant Digital on Weibo claims the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max will weigh more than 240 grams, making it the heaviest iPhone ever produced. For comparison, the current iPhone 17 Pro Max weighs 233 grams, the iPhone 16 Pro Max 227 grams, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max previously held the record at 240 grams.
According to the leak, the new model will also be slightly thicker than its predecessor. The added bulk could point to a larger battery — something Apple already did with the iPhone 17 series, which helped extend battery life and performance.
This year, Apple’s lineup clearly split into two directions: the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the thicker, performance-focused Pro models. While the lightweight Air failed to impress in sales, the Pro models performed exceptionally well. It seems that customers are choosing power and battery endurance over a slim and light design.
Analysts believe Apple will continue to prioritize what its audience values most — longevity, performance, and battery life — even if that means adding a few more grams to the phone.
For some users, the idea of a heavier iPhone might sound unappealing, but the sales figures tell a different story. Many prefer the solid, long-lasting feel of a Pro Max model. And if the leaks are accurate, Apple is preparing to deliver exactly that once again with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
